Rigify edition

izom PropUI Rigify is a Rigify feature set for authoring a clean, generated rig control UI straight from your metarig. You build the rig's control panel on a metarig bone (custom properties and pose-bone controls included), generate the rig normally with Rigify, and the finished controls appear on the generated rig — select the bone and open the Item tab to find them in Rigify's native Rig Main Properties panel.

A different specialization — not a downgrade

The Rigify edition is not a stripped-down or cheaper version of the Full edition. It's a separate specialization with its own philosophy: instead of generating standalone panels anywhere in Blender, it authors your control UIs on the metarig and lets Rigify generate them as part of the rig — so the rig and its UI come out of a single Rigify generate.

It's built mainly for riggers, but if you use Rigify at all, you can get a lot out of it. And the handful of Full-edition tools it leaves out aren't removed — they're things Rigify itself owns in the rig workflow (see What Rigify handles instead). On the authoring side, you lose nothing: the editor is the same.

The authoring features are the same

How you author entries — the entry types, the Entry List, the Generated Layout, conditions, dynamic labels, and display settings — is essentially identical to the main izom PropUI editor. This section only covers what's different about the Rigify edition; for the controls themselves, use the main documentation and the entry type reference.

Why a Rigify edition?

The main editor is great, but using it for rigs means splitting your work: you build the rig in the metarig, generate it with Rigify, and then run the PropUI editor on the generated rig to add its UI. Change one thing and you're juggling two places.

The Rigify edition folds the UI authoring into the metarig itself, so the rig workflow stays simple:

  • Author once, on the metarig. The control UI lives on the metarig bones, kept separate from the final generated rig.
  • Generate normally. Rigify builds the rig and its PropUI panel together — there's no second pass on the generated rig.
  • Fix anything by regenerating. Don't like a control? Select its bone on the metarig, change it, and generate again. The generated rig is disposable; the metarig is your source of truth.

It's the same authoring you already know, shaped to fit how Rigify actually works. (It won't cover every edge case, but it makes the common rig workflow far simpler.)

What's different about the Rigify edition

  • It's a Rigify feature set, not a standalone panel generator. It installs through Rigify, and you author on a metarig bone (Rigify type izom.PropUI).
  • Output goes through Rigify. Controls appear in Rigify's native Rig Main Properties panel (select the bone → Item tab) — there are no separate generated panels, custom panel locations, or a generated-UI manager.
  • Storage is bone-based. Generated custom properties live on prop bones (see Workflow), not arbitrary data-blocks.
  • Authored data lives on the metarig, stored through Rigify parameters.

What Rigify handles instead

A few Full-edition tools aren't part of the feature set — UI Variants, custom generated branding, custom UI text names, and the generated-UI manager. These aren't features taken away: in the rig workflow, Rigify itself owns the generated UI, so the feature set deliberately doesn't duplicate them. You're not getting less PropUI — you're getting PropUI shaped to let Rigify do its job.
