Where your work is saved
Save the .blend to keep a project's authored setup and values. Export JSON to
move a design between files. Saving a default controls future setups and is a
separate action.
| Data | Where it lives |
|---|---|
| Full and Free entries, layout and output settings | With the Scene in the .blend. |
| Rigify authoring data | With the PropUI host component on the metarig. |
| Managed control values | On the resolved storage owner in the .blend. |
| Generated controls | In a Python Text datablock inside the .blend. |
| Native Color Ramp and Curve Mapping contents | In the original material or node-tree data. |
| Named live-value presets | On the group's storage owner inside the .blend. |
| Setup, entry or editor-settings exports | The chosen file or clipboard. |
| Full add-on preferences | Blender's preferences. |
JSON setup transfer preserves source paths, but it does not bundle the objects, nodes or other Blender data those paths refer to. Saved live-value presets also remain with their data owner; their action names can travel with the setup.
Saved defaults
Full and Rigify store defaults in Blender's user configuration folder. Use the folder icon beside the saved-default controls to open the actual location for your active Blender profile.

Free does not import editor settings or saved defaults. Its setup JSON moves the supported panel design; the chosen storage Object must exist in the receiving file.
For the transfer controls, see Import & export.
